March 1, 2022 — (Chattanooga, TN): Libero McKenna Pickett has signed with Union College of Barbourville, Kentucky to play volleyball for the Bulldogs. “I am extremely honored and excited to announce my commitment to Union College to pursue volleyball and an academic career in nursing,” she stated.
McKenna, a senior at Grace Baptist Academy, is currently Libero for Georgia Adrenaline’s team 18-Lisa, coached by Club Director Lisa White Davis. This is McKenna’s third season playing for Adrenaline, where she has always played Libero.
In the two seasons prior at Georgia Adrenaline, she played for coach Chris Sterl’s 16s and 17s teams. This included the highly promising 2020 team that seemed bound for nationals that year. However, their season was tragically interrupted by the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was unfortunate. “I would put that team on the court against anybody and feel very strong that a win was guaranteed,” stated assistant coach Wes Davis about the 2020 team.
McKenna has played school volleyball since 5th grade, and club volleyball since 6th grade. She played all 3 years in middle school as Outside Hitter, playing the full rotation. She continued on full rotation her freshman year of high school, playing both Outside Hitter and DS positions. In her sophomore year, it was suggested that her skills could be better employed as a Libero. McKenna took the challenge, and excelled — allowing her to play on both the JV and Varsity squads that year. She played as Varsity Libero during her junior and senior years.
Through it all, she has maintained a GPA of 4.07.
“I am beyond grateful to each and every person who has supported, encouraged, and coached me from the beginning,” she stated. “None of this would be possible without the teammates and coaches who not only pushed me to be my best, but also motivated me to see my own potential. I am especially grateful to coach Lisa White Davis for the confidence she has always shown in my abilities and for believing in me every step of the way.”
